Natural Resources Park Planting Day at Ohio State Fair Fairground
June 23, 2016
On June 23 we will gather at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Natural Resources Park located at the southeast corner of the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus for our work day. In partnership with the ODNR, our mega-root camp will allow us to ready the planting areas around the historical log house and the kayak pond in the park. This is adjacent and to the left of the Ag/Horticulture Building where our talented members have been demonstrating their creativity in floral designs and plants. The Natural Resources Park is covers 8 acres and is the home of Smokey the Bear, wildlife, bird and butterfly enclosures, prairie, fishing and archery areas.
Some of us will be there around 8:00a.m. but if traffic or other concerns delay you, arrive when you can. Bring garden tools, gloves, lunch or munch, sunscreen, water and whatever else you think you may need. There is a McDonalds near the northeast part of the fairgrounds off 17th Avenue.
Our planning committee thought it would be expedient to bring plants you may wish to donate so we can get this project looking great as soon as possible with the fair starting July 27-August 7. Rob Lucas of ODNR and his intern Tommy Drought have promised us signage advertising our OAGC collaboration with them in the project, so we want it looking our best.
Please contact OAGC 2nd Vice President Suzy Parker (firstname.lastname@example.org) for additional information and to volunteer.
