Nature outings

The OAGC knows that loving nature makes us better gardeners, and better stewards of the earth. And gaining an appreciation for the natural world is best accomplished by spending some time out in it! From wildflower walks to rugged trail hikes, from arboretum visits to our week-long Nature Study Retreat, various regional and state outings are offered to allow members to spend a day - or week! - immersed in natural settings.

Upcoming nature programs will be found here, along with registration requirements and forms (if necessary).

In addition, this space will include photos from completed outings.

Since 1945, Nature Study Retreat (originally Nature Camp) has been a place to revel in the natural world through hikes, study and camaraderie! This week-long annual event is open to OAGC members and non-members, and is held at varying locations around the state of Ohio. Registration materials, with full descriptions of accommodations and programs, are available in the spring edition of the Garden Path, and on-line after April 1.

Kids and nature exploration go hand in hand! Given the chance, kids and teens will get their hands into the dirt, their feet in the water, and their eyes up scanning the treetops. And with lots of research showing the physical, mental and emotional benefits of being out in nature, the OAGC is dedicated to providing opportunities for our young gardeners to explore natural areas around the state.

The OAGC departments of Nature & Conservation and Junior Gardener will periodically team up to provide youth nature outings. In addition, if a group would like an outing designed for them, the leader may contact either department to see what is possible. Send an email to oagcjunior@gmail.com or oagcnature@gmail.com with your ideas.

Nature Study Retreat  - Junior campers, under the age of 18, who are attending camp for the first time, may apply for a Camp Scholarship. they must submit a letter to the Nature Study Retreat chair requesting financial aid to cover some or all of the camp fees. This letter should be written by the junior camper and state why they want to attend camp. The Nature Study Retreat chair will then submit camp scholarship requests to the OAGC Foundation's Development Director.
